My Mission Call and A Walk Down Memory Lane. Impressions of China Hong Kong Temple Complex!

I can still remember the time my family and I, along with our relatives, had our vacation trip at Hong Kong in the year 2019. Of course, one of our plans was to visit the China Hong Kong Temple. We were at the nearest train station going to the temple, but before we walked and tried to find it, we had our own adventure of losing our way. Instead of passing the shorter route, we unknowingly took the longer one which made us so tired because of our morning activities that day. We kept walking and finding, we just followed the GPS, until we finally saw Moroni, which gave us the energy to continue the adventure. We finally arrived at the Temple, and we took some pictures and short clips to show my eldest brother, Jayzon, who had served his mission here last 2014-2017. We also met some elders on our way, who knew Jayzon’s last companion.

Who would’ve thought that I’d be assigned to serve in the exact same mission as my older brother? I am so glad to be the first sister missionary of this family, and I am so much grateful for this wonderful opportunity to be able to serve the Chinese people, and to learn the Chinese language. It is my hope that as I learn and serve them, that I may also be able to learn and find my own ancestors, whose names I still haven’t learned of. I am excited to embark on this new chapter of my life, but at the same time, I am anxious about learning the language. I hope that my testimony will soon be able to strengthen the people I will soon be meeting.

China Hong Kong Temple

The Hong Kong China Temple (Chinese: 中國香港聖殿), formerly the Hong Kong Temple, is the 48th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).

The LDS Church first sent missionaries to Hong Kong in 1853. Almost 140 years later, in 1992, then-First Counselor in the First Presidency, Gordon B. Hinckley, announced plans to build a temple in the territory. Finding a site on which to build, however, proved difficult, especially given the high cost of real estate in the area. Finally, it was decided that the temple would be built on the site of the existing mission home and chapel.

Because of the land shortage in the territory, the temple had to be 'built up' instead of 'spreading out' to build. This scarcity of space contributed to the unique design of the Hong Kong Temple. The six-story building is designed to house not only the temple, but also a chapel, mission offices, and living quarters for the temple president and several missionaries.

The dedication of the Hong Kong China Temple took place on May 26, 1996. The temple serves church members from parts of India, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Mongolia, Guam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Cambodia, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, and Indonesia.

On January 29, 2019 the LDS Church announced the temple's July 8, 2019 closing for renovations. The renovations are anticipated to be completed in 2022.
